ABOUT

"Everything is blue: His pills, his hands, his jeans. And now I'm covered in the colors pulled apart at the seams. It makes me blue. Everything is grey: His hair, his smoke, his dreams. And now he's so devoid of color he don't know what it means...I hope you make it to the day you're 28 years old.

- Halsey, Colors -

MY WRITING PROCESS

I was inpsired to write this story when I heard the song "Colors" by Halsey. I wasn't really sure what it was about so I looked up the meaning of the lyrics. And I found out it was about this rock star that said he regreted going on tour because he never spent a lot time with his little brother and his mother, whom had depression. He also became addicted to multiple drugs because of the bad crowed he associates with. In the song Halsey wishes that he makes it to 28 years-old and not join the "27 club". This lyric then motivated me to write a story about a troubled rock star that wants to get out of this life but is destined for tradgey and brings someone he doesn't know along for the ride.

I was also inspired by the play "The Glass Menagerie" and Alan Watts "Dream of Life" speech because they both deal with humans living lives that they do not want and wish for something different. And althoughs these works both have the same problem the solve it very differently and I found that very interesting. I wanted to dabble in the question of "What should we do if we are unhappy in the life that we live in because it wasn't the one we dreamed of?"

I was also inspired by the songs "Disppear" by Mikky Ekko. This song inspired the line that pushed Connie to join Lostie on his adventure of being selfish.

Why I wrote this story:

I wrote this story because I am starting college soon and this is the time that you discover who you really are and what you really want to do. I'm not sure of myself yet and this scares me, I don't want to end up like my character: living a life I don't want. I also know that I am not alone a lot of teenagers face this problem everyday. This story is me writing out on possible solution to the problem while introducing others.

I also wrote this story because I hope to create more African-American female leads in novels because there are not a lot of main stream characters.
